A hand bound book I made in Spring 2009- Clothing : currently in my possession, whether it fits or not, whether I wear it or not... What we keep, Why we keep it and How did we get it in the first place?
I wrote a little explanation on the back page of the book...
"I have a lot of clothes, apparently, but most of them I am hesitant to wear for one reason or another.
-some need mending
-some do not fit right
-some are from my past life but I keep hanging onto them
-some are destined for fabric to be made into other things.
It's hard for me to get rid of clothes and also hard for me to justify buying new clothes. I don't have much money for clothes and I also don't like supporting sweatshop labor.
Recently I've been hoping to learn to make my own clothes and to get rid of the ones that are just taking up space in my drawers and closet. Also by making some of my clothing I hope to have clothes that I like better because I can make them the way I want.
[...] This catalog contains all the clothes in my possession. I should say "most" as I forgot a few and also chose not to include some that are already in my fabric bin or that I recently cut up for fabric."
I like the idea of revisiting my clothing collection to see how it changes over the years. Already since I made that book I have cut up a lot of my t-shirts for a quilt I am hoping to make this year. I was hanging on to favorite shirts from high school even though I didn't wear them.
(Scans of the book pages coming soon...)
